Micro-trends about transportation

Transportation is a service running since centuries ago, but this doesn’t mean it is outdated. These are some of the latest and most innovative emerging trends in the sector.

Drone Delivery

Drone delivery has been evolving for the last five years but it’s still in an experimental phase. Companies like Amazon or Domino’s Pizza have been testing drone transportation of their products in certain regions of the USA, UK or New Zealand. This companies are being restricted by regulations imposed by regulators such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Furthermore, the limited range and battery life of drones, added to the irregularities of the terrain are restraining the growth of this trend.

The benefits of this type of transportation are clear. A reduction of delivery time may be achieved, accomplishing a 30 minutes delivery. Also, it’s been estimated that a $50 million could be saved in rural areas deliveries where the logistics and routes are difficult to manage and stablish.

This motorcycle sharing service allows you to rent a motorbike and pay only for the minutes you use it, you can rent one wherever you are in the city and leave it wherever you want. They offer an alternative and faster way to public transport for moving around the city. It has a fleet of 4500 electric motorbikes distributed between those six cities. Users don’t have to worry about insurance, maintenance, helmets, … This make this service a very convenient way to move through the city.

Hyperloop -Point to point tube communication

Hyperloop is a new trend that is focused on make a revolution of point-to-point transportation with low air pressure cabins reaching the speed of 1200 km/h.

Elon Musk started to talk about that in 2012 and nowadays is being implemented with some experimental processes with The Boring Company, a business that is focused to implement and democratize this trend.

The operation is simple: There is a tube that is vacuum sealed and there is a pod that is inside them. The vacuum makes a significant reduction of air friction, so the efficiency of transportation increases exponentially letting to reach nearly supersonic speeds.

They have started with some experimental projects between Los Angeles and San Francisco area. Also, they have completed a tunnel in Hawthorne.

Despite that, the hyperloop trend is expanding globally. India started to study some projects and in Europe is planned a tunnel between Stockholm and Helsinki.

Moreover, it is planned that also hyperloop concept will be implemented in other areas such as Mars, and it is considered that the project will be more feasible than earth due to low gravity.
